"PINCHED NERVES" and Chiropractic

When these openings are correctly aligned, the nerves leading through them can function properly.

Some people are still skeptical of chiropractic because they are unable to see how a problem in the back could have anything to do with disease inside the body. Everyone accepts that “pinched” nerves from a “broken” neck can cause complete paralysis of the arms and legs. Still, many people are unaware that nerves irritated by misaligned vertebrae can also cause dysfunction of the internal organs and systems.

The design of the spine is indeed most splendid, incorporating flexibility, strength, and resilience in its critical role of protecting the spinal cord and nerves. The spinal cord and nerves are most susceptible to the stresses and strains, knocks, and bumps of everyday living and require professional help (Dr. Miller) in its maintenance and care.

The vertebrae are held in place by an arrangement of ligaments (connective tissue). A system of muscles attached to the vertebrae can rotate the spine and bend it forward, backward, and sideways, allowing for a vast range of spinal movement while at the same time the vertebrae protect the delicate spinal cord and nerves.

The spinal cord — slightly thicker than a pencil — is suspended from the brain and extends downward through the tunnel formed by the vertebrae. The somewhat smaller major nerve trunks lead from the spinal cord through channels formed by openings in adjacent vertebrae. These openings are called foramen. When these openings are correctly aligned, the nerves leading through them can function properly.

If the openings become even slightly misaligned (subluxation), as the channel becomes distorted, and the major nerve trunks passing through the channel can become stretched, impinged, entrapped, compressed, pinched, or otherwise irritated.

Regardless of the cause, such irritations of the nerve trunk alter the proper function, sensitivity, or conductivity of the nerve and thereby create dysfunction and lowered resistance to infection and disease in the areas or systems of the body served directly or indirectly by that nerve complex. Chiropractic Eliminates “Pinched” Nerves.
